The NBA preseason is supposed to start in a little over a month. Well, so much for that. The NBA lockout has been extensive and the short term future of the league is in doubt. Die-hard NBA fans will likely have to make due with the ABA and college basketball this season.

Someone needs to step up and take a lead in developing a workable solution.

The second bargaining session is set to happen on August 31. The NBA will be represented by David Stern, Adam Silver and possibly Peter Holt. The Union will be represented by Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher.

Here's the thing. NBA players make too much money per season for the popularity of the sport, compared to the NFL. It's not sustainable, but the players know they have more leverage than the NFLPA had in negotiations with the NFL.

Rich Devos is a powerful businessman with a history of growing Amway into a multi-billion dollar organization. He would do well to use his savvy in order to assist NBA reps with a workable deal.
