Lance Berkman Trade Rumors: Which 5 Contenders Need Him Most?

0 of 5

Lance Berkman has cleared waivers and is the biggest name available on the market as the wavier trade deadline approaches. Many contenders will be vying for his services.

Berkman has a powerful bat that would fit in perfectly in the middle of any team's lineup.

He is a free agent after the year ends, and the Cardinals are seemingly out of contention, so it would make sense for the team to move him.

Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers put Nelson Cruz on the disabled list this week and are looking for someone to replace him.

Lance Berkman is the perfect fit for Texas.

Numerous sources have stated that Berkman to the Rangers could happen.

The Rangers are still fighting it out with the Los Angeles Angels for the AL West crown, and adding Berkman to their lineup would give it a boost.

San Francisco Giants

2 of 5

The San Francisco Giants have already added one big bat to their lineup this year when they acquired Carlos Beltran from the New York Mets.

However, they are still in second place behind the Arizona Diamondbacks.

By adding Lance Berkman to the Giants lineup, they will have a much better chance to catch the Diamondbacks.

Berkman is having one of the best offensive seasons of any player in the National League and would be a big help in San Francisco.

Chicago White Sox

3 of 5

The Chicago White Sox have managed to put themselves in a position to compete for the AL Central even after they struggled earlier in the year.

Adam Dunn has been a major liability for the White Sox this year.

Acquiring Lance Berkman would allow the White Sox to replace him in the lineup and could help push them over the top.

New York Yankees

4 of 5

Lance Berkman has already played for the New York Yankees in the past.

After his stint with the team, it looked as if his career was winding down. Now that he has had a resurgence, the Yankees could be interested.

Berkman could become the DH for the Yankees. This would mean that Jesus Montero would not get as many at-bats if he gets a September call-up, but the move could push the Yankees ahead of the Boston Red Sox.

Cleveland Indians

Michael Brantley needs surgery and will be out for the remainder of the year.

If the Cleveland Indians believe that they can make the playoffs this year, they could look to Lance Berkman to fill his spot.

Berkman will immediately become the best bat in the Indians lineup and provide protection to Carlos Santana in the lineup.

The Indians will be in a fight to the finish for the AL Central title, and adding Berkman could help them catch the Detroit Tigers.
