Transfer Deadline Day at It Happened

A summer of dizzying speculation culminated in a frantic 24 hours today, as Transfer Deadline Day arrived for Europe's major leagues.

Let me leave you with the news that Arsenal have signed Mikel Arteta from Everton—according to Sky Sports News.

The fee is rumored to be around £10 million.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has just talked to Sky Sports...

He said the Gary Cahill deal is NOT going to happen. He also wrote off the Kaka rumors and said it was unlikely Spurs would bring in anybody else now before the window shuts. Peter Crouch is currently working on a deal at Stoke, while Alan Hutton is talking to Aston Villa.

"The deal was just a bit difficult to do," - Redknapp on Spurs' failed bid for Gary Cahill.

OUTRAGEOUS RUMOR ALERT! Suddenly Twitter is boiling over with speculation that Kaka could be joining Tottenham before the transfer window shuts.

File that one in the highly unlikely folder. That said, bear in mind Rafael van der Vaart was a shocking deal when that one happened.

It's looking like Mertesacker, Santos and Chu-Young in for the Gunners—plus possibly Chelsea's Benayoun.

Everton reportedly turned down an initial Arsenal bid for Mikel Arteta that included Nicklas Bendtner as a makeweight.

Arsenal could be preparing a cash-only offer, but there's also talk they're now concentrating on securing a loan deal for Chelsea's Yossi Benayoun.
