Game Recap

November 16, 2008

The Orange opened their season against Division II Le Moyne Dolphins on Sunday and, not surprising to anyone, walked away with a 85-51 win.

Jonny Flynn lead all scorers with 17 points, six rebounds, and four steals, and four fellow Orange had double-digit points. Eric Devendorf started and Andy Rautins came off the bench for the Orange, both playing for the first time since tearing their ACLs last season.

The Dolphins were held scoreless for almost five minutes to start the game and walked into halftime down 38-19.

The Orange shot .500 from the floor while the Dolphins shot a respectable .404.

But all was not great for both teams as free throws proved to be troublesome—the Dolphins were only 1-7 and the Orange were 10-17. In a game lacking the intense pressure of a Big East rivalry, it seems disheartening that the Orange would miss seven free throws.

The first game jitters are now out of the way and the Orange are looking to have a great season. While currently unranked, they stack up very well against their Big East brethren. Their first true test comes on November 24 when the Orange play the Florida Gators.

Very true - Le Moyne doesn't even have an ESPN team page...

What's more important, though, is that Devendorf and Rautins came back strong and both played well. The free throws scare me a little bit though...

Yea I am really happy about the way Devendorf and Rautins played. I am not that worried about the free throws it was their first game and they had the win in the bag. If they are shooting that way from the line come conference play, then I will be worried.

True - I guess you are allowed to be a little rusty.

The only thing that makes me worry is that the free throws weren't at the end of the game in an attempt to catch up, they were missed throughout when the win wasn't 100% in the bag yet. But they should be fine come conference play.

Yeah I know - there was talk about redshirting him since he didn't get any better this summer after the stress fracture. I'm not sure if they officially have yet, but it would really surprise me if they don't.
