Marco Belinelli to the New Jersey Nets?
Being firmly cemented to the bench is not a place any young player wants to be.
Golden State guard Marco Belinelli is in that agonizing place right now. These rumors of a trade must be sweet music to his ears. The 18th pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Belinelli came to Golden State with high hopes and no small amount of hype. This was then backed up by a 37 point outing in his first summer league game. Since then it has all been downhill for the young Italian combo guard.
After a rookie season filled with DNP Coach's Decision's, the stage looked set for a stellar sophomore season. But Belinelli is still glued to the bench and is clearly stuck in Coach Don Nelson's dog house.
Rumors have Belinelli being sent to the Nets, possibly for forward/center Sean Williams. No one close to the Nets has said anything about this, but it seems like a good possibility as Williams finds himself in a similar situation as Belinelli. Nets' coach Lawrence Frank cannot find him any playing time and was even contemplating sending Williams to the D-League.
The trade makes sense for both teams from a roster standpoint as both players are at the bottom of their respective depth charts, despite being very talented players.
However rumors are only rumors. Belinelli will remain on the bench in Golden State...for now.
