Russian football team Anzhi Makhachkala were bought by billionaire, Suleyman Kerimov in January 2011. Kerimov made it clear that he would do everything possible to bring in new players to the club and make changes to the stadium.
This week has seen something staggering happen in the transfer window. Anzhi has been negotiating the purchase of Striker Samuel Eto from Inter Milan. A deal worth £18 million is believed to have been agreed upon, but the player's contract is causing all the headlines.
Eto is believed to be on a contract at £345,000 a week—after tax—profit. A jaw dropping amount of money for a 30-year-old football player. Sure he can run around a pitch and score goals, but this sum of money is beyond ridiculous.
Eto is now the highest earner in the football world just ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. With everything that is happening around the globe, Fifa should stand up and introduce a wage cap for footballers.
No one should be on that sort of money. It is time to bring some common sense into the game!
