One week ago, the Washington Capitals stunned the Carolina Hurricanes with two goals in the final three minutes at Verizon Center.
Tonight, the Caps (9-4-2) reeled off three first period goals en route to a 5-1 road win at RBC Arena in Raleigh. It was the second straight game Washington has posted three goals in the opening stanza.
Alexander Semin scored twice and had three assists in the rout, giving him 13 goals and 14 assists already in this young season. Alex Ovechkin scored five minutes in with a wrist shot and added two assists.
Mike Green scored his sixth on a power play slap shot late in the first to pace the first place Capitals. Washington is riding a four game win-streak and has outscored opponents 15-6 during the stretch. The Caps are also the only Eastern Conference team to have no regulation losses at home (6-0-1) yet this season.
Washington returns home on Friday to face the New Jersey Devils, who handed the Caps their lone overtime loss at home. It will be Bruce Boudreau Bobblehead Night. The first 15,000 fans will receive a free bobblehead of the coach who turned around this franchise into a winning one.
