WWE News: Is Edge Coming Back to the WWE's Smackdown Brand?
WWE News: The Rated R Superstar Coming Back?
The list of WWE stars who have left the company—for whatever reason—over the course of the last couple of years reads like a “who’s who” of wrestling history: Batista, Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho just to name a few.
But the most recently departed superstar you’ll find on that list is none other than “The Rated R Superstar,” Edge, who was forced to retire after Wrestlemania 27 due to a neck injury that had become not only career but actually life-threatening.
It appears, though, that Edge could already be heading back to the WWE. Well, kinda, sorta.
Several readers have sent in word that former WWE Champion Edge is being advertised for the Smackdown tapings on September 13, 2011 in Toronto, Ontario.
The event is being billed as "The return of the Rated R Superstar Edge.
Don’t get too excited just yet, though. Chances are that—much like Bret Hart’s appearance at last night’s Smackdown taping—this is just a one-time deal for Edge to appear in his hometown and draw some more fans to the show.
Clearly, Edge is one of the most well-known and most beloved Canadian wrestlers in WWE history, and his appearance in Toronto is likely to make the show have an even more special feel to it.
The last time we saw Edge in a WWE ring was at SummerSlam when he gave his long-time friend Christian a reality check by calling him a “whiny b**ch” prior to his match with Randy Orton. The one-night return of Edge made us pine for a full-time return to WWE TV for the Ultimate Opportunist.
Unfortunately, Edge will never wrestle again, as he would literally be risking his life if he did so. But perhaps there is more to Edge’s return than meets the eye.
Given that the Smackdown taping is taking place in Toronto, expect some more interaction between Edge and Christian. As for a return to WWE TV in a non-wrestling role, I guess anything is possible.
But it seems like it’s too soon for Edge to be back on TV full-time. I think he’ll back as a TV character down the road.
Not just yet, though.
