US Open Tennis 2011: Draw, Predictions and Tournament Preview

The 2011 US Open is set to begin on August 29th and runs until September 11th in New York City.  On the men's side, defending champion Rafael Nadal will look to repeat at this year's US Open.

Nadal wil be the No. 2 seed in this year's open, behind only world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Djokovic won the Wimbledon and will be looking to win back-to-back grand slam events.

On the women's side, two-time defending champion Kim Clijsters will be out of the tournament due to an abdominal strain.  Meanwhile, Venus Williams is expecting to participate in the event but she has missed the last couple events due to an illness and will not participate in any warm-up events.

The full draw for the US Open will be available on Thursday, August 25th.  However, the wild cards for the tournament have already been announced.

Notable wild cards on the men's side include Australian Lleyton Hewitt and American Ryan Harrison; on the women's side, notable wild cards include Americans Jill Craybas, Jamie Hampton and Alison Riske.

The total purse for this year's US Open has increased to a record total of $23.7 million.  The winners of the men's and women's singles will take home $1.8 million in prize money for their effort, while those eliminated in the first round will bring home $19,000.
