The Mask the NHL Doesn't Want

His mask is recognized everywhere, but Jason Voorhees’ mask is one you don’t want to see in the NHL. The mask first appeared in the third ‘Friday the 13th’ movie.

While no one really knows why the Jason character wore a mask, the story as to how it happened is well documented.

One day during production, director/producer Steve Miner called for a light check. Unfortunately no one on the crew wanted to apply any make-up for the light check. Someone had the idea of giving actor Richard Brooker, who plays the role of Jason, a mask.

Editor Martin Jay Sadoff who was on the set, was a hockey player and just happened to have his bag full of hockey gear, including a hockey mask that became one of Hollywood’s most popular props.

If one day Crystal Lake gets an expansion team they might want to ask Jason Voorhees to be in net.  How about this for a team name: The Crystal Lake Slashers ;)
