First of all, I would like to send congratulations out to Tim Lincecum for accomplishing one of the greatest honors in Major League Baseball, the Cy Young award.
Lincecum has become the new entertainment for Giants' fans. Throughout 2008, Lincecum showed he was more than capable to take on the new role as the spotlight of the San Francisco Giants' organization.
When 2009 creeps up on us, we must remember not to put so much pressure on this young kid, in hopes his domination will continue in a Giants uniform for years to come.
It would be very smart for the Giants to wheel in a big-name pitcher, such as CC Sabathia.
Notice, I do not give a list of potential pitchers the Giants should be actively searching for, because CC is the only starting pitcher that makes sense. He is a Bay Area native, and from what I hear, he is a great teammate.
Given the fact that Baron Davis took a hometown discount to join his Los Angeles Clippers, I can definitely imagine Sabathia doing the same to join what would be one of the most dominating pitching staffs in Major League Baseball.
Along with the potential Sabathia signing, I would imagine that would open the door up to trade one of our lefty-handed starters (Sanchez, Lowry, Misch), and possibly an outfielder for a big bat such as a Prince Fielder or David Wright.
Giants' fans, do not get your hopes up. There is not one player in MLB that is completely untouchable, unless you are talking literally (Tim Lincecum). The Giants would be set for pitching with the signing of CC and possibly a reliever in Juan Cruz.
Brian Sabean knows his stay with the Giants is up in the air if they cannot compete in 2009. I assure you that the Giants will have a new cleanup hitter by the time Spring Training rolls around.
