Stevens' New Policy, Hartnell Sends Message, Briere Out 5-7 Days

Last season, when the Flyers were a struggling team fighting to make the playoffs Coach John Stevens changed the players locker rooms around. Long story short, Flyers go on to make the Eastern Conf. Finals. Relevant story this season as the Flyers who have started slow with a 5-6-3 record through 14 games have a new policy to adhere to, the bench.

Scott Hartnell was benched yesterday for the entire third period by Coach John Stevens. Stevens said after the game, "It didn't look like he wanted to play tonight, so we went in another direction. I didn't like his game. He didn't look like he was moving his feet." Obviously, it looks as if Coach Stevens is trying to dig down deep and find a spark on this team.

Hartnell responded to him being sat down by his Coach, "I think you have to guys accountable, you've got to make a stand with someone and tonight it was me. I've got to respond and come out with a better effort and be more prepared, I saw it coming."

Hartnell continued on to talk about holding everyone accountable, not just himself. "I just hope he(Stevens) holds everyone accountable and it doesn't matter what number they're wearing on their backs, its all for the team now."

This could work, it was accepted by the other players, including Captain Mike Richards, "Maybe this is a good thing, you play well and you're going to play. You don't play well then your not going to play. It prepares you more, maybe pushes you a little bit more, but that's how it is really supposed to be, I think.

No word yet on the status of Danny Briere, all I know is that the team took him to Pittsburgh with them, so that could be a good sign. "It was something that appeared during the game, playing on the cautious side at this point. It has nothing to do with the surgery I just had."

Flyers play Pittsburgh tomorrow night at the Melon Arena at 7:30 on CSN.
