Will CM Punk or John Cena walk away the undisputed owner of the WWE championship belt? And what role with new WWE CEO Triple H play in the title match?
Who will be the WWE heavyweight champion, reigning belt-wearer Christian, or the man from whom he took the title, Randy Orton?
Can Divas champion Kelly Kelly hang on to her butterfly-laden belt against Beth Phoenix?
And what other matches will show up on the mysteriously short fight card?
We’ll get those answers and more as we go further into our WWE SummerSlam 2011 coverage.
There’s plenty of buzz surrounding tonight’s pay per view main-event match between CM Punk and John Cena—each of whom are claiming that he is the rightful WWE Champion. But interestingly, a lot of that buzz is surrounding the other figures in WWE who could play major roles in this winner-take-all match.
According to WWE.com:
To ensure that this bout is called down the middle and that there is no outside interference, WWE’s Chief Operating Officer Triple H will serve as special guest referee to personally crown the first-ever Undisputed WWE Champion Under the watchful eye of The Cerebral Assassin, there will be no doubt who deserves to be the sole holder of the coveted title this Sunday in Los Angeles.
Great, I’m sure that Triple H has no vested interest in who walks away the champ.
Or does he?
Might Triple H be aiming to create order in his new regime by sending the anti-establishment CM Punk packing without a title? Or might Mr. Hunter Hearst Helmsley realize that Punk is the best thing for his WWE brand, and therefore help him take down the seemingly physically dominant Cena all in the name of the company?
Yeesh.
Anyway, there’s also plenty of speculation that another wrestler could sneak into the fray and play a major role in tonight’s main event: Alberto Del Rio.
After emerging victorious with the Raw Money in the Bank briefcase at WWE’s Money in the Bank event several weeks ago in Rosemont, Ill., the Mexican master is free to use that briefcase to cash in a contract for a match for one of the WWE’s world titles.
Per Wikipedia, “The contract is valid for one year, and the briefcase holder…can appear on any program and cash in the contract at the date, place, and time of their choosing.”
Could that chance for Del Rio come tonight against the winner of the CM Punk-John Cena match? Only time will tell.
So you want to watch the WWE SummerSlam event live tonight on your computer, do you?
Well, it’s never been easier to do.
Sure, sure, there are plenty of sketchy sites out there that offer free live streaming of pay-per view events like this. But can you trust them?
Some seem mildly reliable, but you never know what you’re getting yourself (or your computer) into. The quality can be really crummy, and there are often viruses, malware or pop-ups that will ruin your experience.
So why not drop the $44.95 to watch the event on WWE.com? It starts at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. It’s as easy as could be and it’s 100 percent reliable, unlike those other illegal sites that say they offer free live streaming.
Just a quick technical note for you. According to WWE.com:
You will need to have Windows Media Player 11 in order to view this content. If your version is lower then this, an upgrade to the latest Windows Media Player will be required. You can download the player for free by clicking here.
Believe me, I'm all for saving money when and where you can. And I'm sure plenty of you will comment that you have a great site where you can watch SummerSlam for free.
But I'm also a fan of keeping my computer free of viruses, spyware, pop-up ads and the other junk that can come from navigating to and spending time on a sketchy site offering free live streaming.
WWE.com costs some coin, but to some people, it's worth it for the legitimacy and lack of concern about what'll happen to your computer from watching.
Enjoy the PPV!
So you want to watch WWE's SummerSlam pay-per-view event live tonight from Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The easiest, most traditional way is to order the pay-per view through your cable company for about $45 in standard definition and $55 for high def. WWE.com has a very clear explanation of how to do it.
There’s ordering info for AT&T, BrightHouse, Interactive Optimum, Charter Communications, Comcast/Xfinity, Cox Communications, DirecTV, DISH Network, Insight Digital Cable, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FIOS.
WWE.com also has a terrific feature that allows you to search for nearby Blast Areas, or local bars and restaurants that will be showing the PPV.
You’ll probably have to pay some kind of cover charge to get in, but it won’t be nearly as much as ordering the PPV at home. You’ll also have to pay for whatever pizza, wings, burgers, fries and adult beverages you partake of while you’re there, but what better place to watch the madness of WWE SummerSlam than in a loud, crowded bar with loads of other wrasslin’ fans?
