It's official: This Mark Henry push is very, very real.
After a shocking victory against the streaking Sheamus this Sunday, it seems only a matter of time now before the World's Strongest Man is in the heavyweight title picture. Especially after Orton defeated Christian for the strap.
I'll be the first to say that I did not see Henry walking out of L.A. with a victory, especially in such dominating fashion. This match seemed like the perfect time to push The Celtic Warrior into the No. 2 babyface position on Smackdown, and it's clear due to the massive crowd reaction that Sheamus is still on his way to the top, even without a victory.
But still, Mark Henry's victory was a huge surprise in a night filled with twists around every corner. Henry is definitely in line now for a main-event match. His hot streak is now sizzling, and if the WWE doesn't give him the opportunity soon, this match will look a complete waste.
I'm not sure exactly how I feel about the outcome of this match quite yet. Henry's push is very deserving, but it seems to be a few years too late. Henry is way past his prime, and with the WWE trying to move in a new youthful direction, I don't think Mark Henry is a fresh enough face to really draw a crowd. I must admit though, Henry has been incredibly fun to watch, and though I'd love to see him headline a main event, I just don't think its good for business in the long run.
As for Sheamus, pushing his face turn so hard and so fast just to have him lose clean is pretty puzzling to me. I'm sure his little punishment by the powers that be is over, and there's no doubt he's a main event caliber guy. This loss does nothing but hurt him in my opinion.
Still, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. We'll just have to wait and see what Friday night holds for both the Celtic Warrior and the World's Strongest Man.
