Stoke City vs. Chelsea Live Commentary and Analysis: Villas-Boas' First EPL Game

The Premier League is back, finally.
Yesterday's opening day saw one match fall foul of the riots in England over the past week (Tottenham vs Everton), four draws, two away wins, two red cards, two missed penalties, several Joey Barton incidents and not one single home victory—the first time this has happened since the inception of the Premier League.
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
My name is Karl Matchett and I will be running live text commentary and analysis on the Premier League on Bleacher Report all season for as many matches as possible.
Today we have Stoke City playing host to Chelsea as last season's runners-up get their campaign underway. Stay with me, it promises to be a cracking encounter. Feel free to get involved by posting comments below!

That's all for this match then, hopefully many more goals to come this season after a relatively low-key opening for the Premier League. Thanks for reading and see you all again soon.
Full time from the Britannia Stadium; Stoke City 0 Chelsea 0 - Man of the Match; Asmir Begovic (Stoke).
Manchester United travel to West Brom for their opening match in half an hour's time, while Manchester City face new boys Swansea City on Monday night - a match which will also be covered by Live Text Updates - so 'Fan' me now on Bleacher Report to easily find and follow what happens in the game!
Thanks to Ricky for his comment there below; early signs so far and we haven't seen either of the Manchester sides in action yet but certainly Chelsea and Arsenal didn't look at their best over the opening weekend.
Wenger faces a tough schedule with Udinese twice, Liverpool and Manchester United all to play in the next few weeks.
Chelsea face West Brom and Norwich in their next fixtures.
For their part, Stoke defended doggedly and 'keeper Asmir Begovic had a very good game, making three key saves.
Woodgate played well on his debut and Jon Walters showed his usual mix of endeavour and skill.
A good point for the Potters to start the season with, though they will hope injuries suffered by Matthew Etherington and Rory Delap are not too serious.
Stoke hoist a final free kick into the Chelsea area which John Terry heads away easily.
Mark Halsey has had enough and blows his whistle; the full time result is Stoke City 0 Chelsea 0.
An undefeated start then for Villas-Boas but not a winning one, his side showing signs of similarly struggling with creativity through the centre as last season. Work to do there perhaps.
...Drogba hits it into the wall, Alex stands on the rebound and Ramires spanks the follow up about twenty yards wide.
Just about sums up this game really.
Pulis still shouting at his players, encouraging them on to see out the final minute or so of the game - this will be a good result for Stoke to start their season with.
...Alex also lurking...
Free kick to Chelsea almost dead-centre and 25 yards from goal; Woodgate pulling Drogba to ground.
Two-and-a-half minutes of injury time remaining. Drogba will take it himself...
Five minutes are added on and we move into them now. Is there a late hero on the pitch to snatch three points for one side or another? It's still Stoke City 0 Chelsea 0.
With no Rory Delap on the pitch the long-throw duties fall to Ryan Shotton - who arguably throws it further than his Irish team mate! Cech flaps but the foul is given anyway.
Fernando Torres traipses off unhappily to be replaced by former Liverpool team mate Benayoun. One minute plus injury time for the Israeli to make an impact.
Frank Lampard is the latest name to go into the referee's book for a petulant show of dissent, throwing the ball away when Stoke are awarded another free kick. Frustration abound for the title hopefuls.
The next substitution belongs to Stoke, however.
Kenwyne Jones is being replaced by Ryan Shotton who impressed in pre-season for Stoke.
Drogba, Lampard and Torres break into the Stoke box but after Drogba finds the English midfielder his cross to Torres is overhit.
Chelsea have shown good combinations up until the twenty-yard mark but beyond that they have been rather woeful.
Time for Yossi Benayoun perhaps?
Ramires unhappy with a hefty tackle from Pugh but it was perfectly timed and well executed.
Stoke have a free kick themselves and from the ensuing rebound Pugh's cross is plucked off the head of Huth by Petr Cech.
Drogba and Alex lick their lips at the prospect of a free kick left of centre and 25 yards out, but the striker bends it over the wall and at the 'keeper. Time running out for Chelsea to kick off Andre Villas-Boas' reign with a win.
After all that, the ball in from Lampard doesn't clear the first man and is easily cleared. Ten minutes left.
Marc Wilson receiving the third yellow card of the game for a blatant block on Jose Bosingwa. Another free kick for Chelsea but the referee wants a word with Terry and Shawcross first, who have been grappling with each other all game at set pieces.
Fernando Torres spins, swivels, sprints and shoots but again it is blocked behind for a corner. Still Torres looking dangerous without really finding any end product.
Begovic is having a great game

Glen Whelan tries his luck from distance, curling a shot on target but Cech moves his feet quickly and makes a routine save.
Less than a quarter of an hour remaining for either side to break the deadlock.
Torres spins and shoots but is offside; Begovic again saved his effort anyway, tipping the ball wide.
Anelka thrown to ground outside the box and its a Chelsea free kick.
Kalou is replaced by Chelsea who now have a front line of Anelka-Torres-Drogba. Can they work together?
Great reception for the Ivory Coast striker from the travelling support.
Alex gets up to head the free kick goalwards but again it is comfortable for Begovic.
So close! Anelka gets involved for the first time, drifting inside from the left edge of the area and curling a delicious effort towards the far top corner—only to see Begovic tip his effort onto the crossbar. Great strike, top save.
Moments later, Torres crosses to Ramires who sees his header stopped again by Begovic who has made two or three really good saves today.
Twenty minutes left; who fancies scoring a winner? Who's your money on?
Rory Delap is now down injured with what looks like a left hamstring problem. He is set to be replaced by Danny Pugh for Stoke's second enforced substitution.
Ashley Cole was booked there around the time of the Chelsea sub, by the way, for a tackle on Jermaine Pennant.
Problems for Cech as he gets only one hand to another throw in launched into his six yard box, but Stoke cannot capitalise and Chelsea clear their lines.
We haven't really seen anything of Stoke as an attacking force in this half but they also haven't been overly troubled at the other end.
Ashley Cole tries to change that with a trademark raid down the left but he is called offside instead of getting the corner he wanted.
