WWE SummerSlam 2011: Top 5 Superstars Most Likely to Help Christian Win
Clearly Christian's surprise is a superstar who will interfere on his behalf. Many names have been thrown around and a leading consensus is that Christian's partner in crime will become his bodyguard.
Whether or not this holds true, I have concentrated all of the possibilities, and have ranked the top five superstars most likely to assist Christian in victory.
Tomko has been one of the main names thrown around. He's also the first superstar on this list whose return would be to serve as Christian's bodyguard.
Problem is, I don't see Tomko coming back to the WWE. He is not working for any wrestling promotion, which works in his favour, but of all the superstars on this list, he is the one furthest from the WWE bubble.
Also, his return as Christian's bodyguard would be far too reminiscent of Christian's CLB gimmick.
Skip Sheffield (edited in by demand)
Admittedly I had forgotten about Skip Sheffield. He has had poor luck with injuries since he was in the Nexus.
While not too much of Skip has been seen, he definitely had potential. He has a good wrestling look, his mic skills aren't half-bad (could use improvement), and most importantly for this list, Has the potential to be an excellent bodyguard for Christian.
Like so many others his role was diminished in Nexus, however I believe he'll have better luck on his next run, should WWE give it to him (see: Michael Tarver).
The potential for Sheffield to run in at SummerSlam is apparent, he has stated in recent interviews that he is ready to make his return "sometime soon".
5) Chris Jericho
Jericho's name has been thrown around quite a bit. From a character standpoint, it wouldn't be a problem, as Jericho has stated that he would return with a new gimmick. It also isn't far-fetched to have Jericho return to help his fellow countryman, Christian.
The superstar arguably most in demand for a WWE return sadly has a small chance of returning however. His band Fozzy is doing extremely well, and with upcoming tours, it probably isn't the smartest move.
Also I'm not sure returning as Christian's lackey would be Jericho's preference. That's just a hunch.
4) Brodus Clay
This one is kind of a toss-up. Brodus has been away for a few months filming a movie, and with his imminent return (recent dark matches), I suggest Brodus may be a perfect candidate for Christian's bodyguard.
Brodus could return to destroy Orton and go on as Christian's bodyguard. Obviously the biggest obstacle is that both men were on opposing sides during the Edge vs. Del Rio and Christian vs. Del Rio feud.
Personally, I'd rather see Brodus' return at SummerSlam and not as Christian's future bodyguard.
He has mic skills (showcased on NXT, if anyone saw it), and great appeal as a monster heel. I believe Brodus should return for a singles run—possibly a monster face vs. heel feud with Mark Henry?
3) Mason Ryan
Another highly speculated name, Mason Ryan has been on the injury list for a few months and is looking to make a return soon.
Unlike Brodus Clay, I don't believe Mason has the mic skill, or the refinement in his wrestling skills to embark on a singles career just yet.
Mason could be an excellent bodyguard for Christian and would play less of a diminished role than his time in the New Nexus.
2) Mark Henry
I'm surprised more people haven't brought up Mark Henry. He's on the most dominant run of his career and does not care who he destroys; that's where Randy Orton comes in.
Christian could very well have enlisted the help of Mark Henry to defeat Orton. Henry isn't aligned with Christian, however I believe his character would not be adverse to laying out Orton.
This could lead to a Henry/Orton feud while Christian goes on to feud with Sheamus. That's the smartest route to take, though I'm predicting a fatal four-way for the World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions.
That's a debate for another day, but for now I think Mark Henry has the biggest chance of helping Christian at SummerSlam of all the superstars currently on the WWE roster.
However, that's assuming WWE isn't planning a surprising return of...
The first name most fans thought of following the cliffhanger Christian left us on SmackDown.
For those of you who read my article on the possibility of Edge returning at SummerSlam to help Christian, you know my feelings on the matter.
For those who didn't, let me summarize.
The possibility of Edge returning is high and he's already in LA for SummerSlam Axxess. While it would be a fantastic, reminiscent moment to see Edge once again, there are long-term concerns I have for Christian.
His major criticism is that he has lived in the shadow of Edge. Many fans think Edge's retirement is the only reason Christian has risen to the main event (arguable).
Edge helped Christian win at Extreme Rules, but four months later, in the midst of Christian's first true run as a world champion, I believe it is far too soon to bring Edge back.
It hurts Christian's credibility as a champion to once again rely on Edge. For Christian's sake, I hope one of the other names on this list are the ones to interfere in the No Holds Barred match at SummerSlam.
