A ‘secret’ meeting is going to take place today between presidents of the various SEC schools.

They will discuss the topic of Texas A&M defecting from the Big 12 and joining their ranks, the first foray for the South Eastern Conference into the coveted state of Texas.

The conference is deciding if they should allow A&M in first and foremost, but after will need to decide what the 14th team will be in order to even out the conference.

If they do decide to add the Aggies and another squad, look for the Big 12 to try and make a big splash and get some high profile schools to join them.

The most intriguing prospect for the Big 12 to replace Texas A&M with is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have never played in a conference but could be heavily recruited and offered a very lucrative package by the Big 12 in order to have them join their ranks.

The Big 12 lost the Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska Cornhuskers last year and a further blow to the conference by losing the Texas A&M Aggies may be too much to sustain without adding a big name team back into their folds.

Other options besides the Fighting Irish, which is most likely just a pipe dream anyway, include the Brigham Young University Cougars, who recently went independent. This will be the most likely team to join a major conference this season and the Big 12 needs to recruit them.

If the Pac-12 picks up BYU, which they could as Utah’s rival, the Big 12 will most likely crumble and dissolve into separate conferences. Texas and Oklahoma are the real meat and potatoes of the conference and will be highly recruited by every major player in the NCAA.

It will be interesting to see what exactly happens with the Big 12, but if they can pull of a major coup like getting Norte Dame they will be just fine. If they lose out on Notre Dame and can’t recruit someone like BYU, it might just signal the end of the conference.
