Kevin Nash: Return of Big Daddy Cool Ensures Triple H Heel Turn
Kevin Nash has not been featured on WWE television since the Royal Rumble despite being under contract to the company. But he made his presence felt in a big way at WWE SummerSlam by powerbombing CM Punk, which allowed Alberto Del Rio, who cashed in his Money In the Bank contract, to win the championship.
The ramifications of Nash's return will be felt on WWE television for months. The biggest ramification that his return has is that it all but guarantees a Triple H heel turn in the near future.
When Triple H made himself the special referee for the John Cena-CM Punk match, most people, myself included, assumed that he would screw Punk out of the title in order to protect the integrity of the WWE.
But looking at the bigger picture, Triple H will eventually be revealed as the man who brought Nash back to screw Punk out of the title and Del Rio will be the "corporate" champion that Triple H has been looking for all along.
Nash does make the story more interesting than it would have been if Triple H had just turned on Punk, but ultimately the end result will be the same.
Triple H needs to go heel because Punk needs that unlikable leader to feud with if he wants to increase his standing with the audience. Nash is a means to that end, and if the story is done correctly, it can make for compelling television.
That requires giving WWE creative the benefit of the doubt, which is always a dangerous thing to do, but what choice do we have.
Nash and Triple H will be the new WWE power couple, with Punk being the rebel that they are trying to keep down for the good for the business. A heel turn for Triple H is not only expected but it is now more inevitable than ever.
