SEC Expansion Rumors: If Texas A&M Is the 13th Team, Who's No. 14?
SEC Expansion rumors continue to fly, with the hot and heavy story being Texas A&M possibly bolting the Big 12 to join the SEC.
That would give the league 13 teams and, obviously, that needs to be balanced out. Clemson, Florida State and Missouri have all been mentioned as the possible 14th team -- or even all three if the SEC decided to go to a 16-team league.
But is it realistic?
If I'm South Carolina and Florida, which are current members of the SEC, the last thing I want to do is add another conference foe in my own state. SC already has a rivalry with Clemson and Florida with FSU, but the Gamecocks and the Gators have a distinct recruiting advantage when going up against their archrivals -- they play in the SEC. Clemson and Florida State don't.
I have to believe the reps from Carolina and Florida would put up a fuss about this.
But I'd also have to imagine that Missouri would be a tough sell to some hardcore SEC folks. A midwest team in the SEC? At least Texas A&M is somewhat south :)
