SEC Expansion Rumors: What Some of the Top Coaches and Adminstrators Say
The Sporting News had an expansive story regarding the SEC expansion rumors of adding Texas A&M -- and possibly others -- to the conference, and it had a nice roundup of quotes from some important folks who would be affected by such a move.
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said he is not worried about it. "Do what you need to do,” Stoops said to The Daily Oklahoman about the situation. “I’m sure we’ll do what we have to do. I still believe right now we’re in a good, strong conference. Until that changes, I don’t have much to say about it.”
Florida State President Eric Barron told ACC commissioner John Swofford he has not talked to the SEC, the Sporting News reported. Clemson president James Barker, speaking to the Charleston Post and Courier, said “We have had no contact at all (with the SEC). We are committed to the Atlantic Coast Conference.”
Also in the same article, an unnamed official from the ACC told Sporting News on Saturday afternoon that there have been "no substantial conversations" within the Virginia Tech athletics department about joining the SEC. On Friday, Virginia Tech’s athletic director said he would “politely decline” if the Hokies were invited to join the SEC.
