Patriots Tackle Opponents with Numbers and Letters
Lightning in a bottle: Danny Woodhead
Bingo!
Yes, fans, the New England Patriots have Bingo already planned this season! The tumbling balls will fall into their hands and onto the scoreboard.
Troy Brown’s famous public service announcement for United Way featured the Patriot calling out “Bingo!” when he beat a bunch of oldsters.
Later Brown cried out “We got Bingo!” at a championship rally at Boston City Hall Plaza to throngs.
The first call of the season is B-1, and the Patriots need to become No. 1 over the Jets in the AFC.
Already the signs are there that lightning will strike Rex Ryan twice. He cut Danny Woodhead, and the Patriots grabbed hold of lightning in a bottle. Now the Jets have cut Shaun Ellis, and the thundering hoofs of Bill Belichick snatched him from the jaws of Tyrannosaurus Rex.
There is no “I” in team, according to the T-shirt philosophers. Yet the Patriots have taken on some of the biggest I-balls in the game. This season is no different with the addition of Chad Ochocinco, who could prove to be the rolling stone with no Moss.
If you know what ingredient is in the middle of TNT, you have Nitro to the second power. It’s now a team of second chances—and in some cases last chances. For Albert Haynesworth, Ochocinco and perhaps even Logan Mankins, the next chance you have may explode in your face or melt in your hands.
The "gee whiz" factor may be big this year. That may be good and cornball, as the Patriots simply fulfill destiny with the blink of an eye and the expectation of a champion. On the other hand, it could leave the taste of ash in fans’ mouths as their jaws drop at the bad luck that befalls the would-be kings.
You can find O in Ocho, or OMG, and/or anything in between. What you will never find in the upcoming season is a scoreless 0 Patriots game. They will put up those touchdowns and extra oints in great numbers, usually in victorious routs.
So, would Troy Brown’s Bingo apply again this year? We think the letters and numbers spell out a season with more than the usual excitement with some unusual suspects in the lineup.
