Marvin Harrison: Rusted or Broken?
I, as a Colts fan, have been one of the biggest supporters of Marvin Harrison from the very beginning. I have tried to give Marvin the benefit of the doubt on countless occasions because it would kill me to see one of my all time favorite players fade away.
As the season began, I felt that his struggles mirrored the team. When the Colts defeated the Ravens, Harrison caught two touchdowns and looked to be coming back into form. But since then he has had three consecutive games with pedestrian numbers including zero touchdown catches.
What bothers me more then the lack of statistical production is what I see from him when he is playing. It is easy to see that he does not look like himself. Perhaps the multiple knee surgeries have compounded with his age to limit one of the all-time greats to a shell of his former self.
He lacks the speed which once made him a major threat. Even worse, his once "sure-hands" have been dropping passes at key moments. Peyton is getting him the ball, he's just not holding onto it.
There have been moments of promise. Even this last Sunday there were a few plays where you could see the "Old-Marvin" breaking out of those cuts better then anyone else in the league. Still, the combination of negative effects have finally added up to make me ask the following question...
Is Marvin Harrison rusted or broken?
Man, it pains me to even have to ask the question.
