Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Turkish winger Arda Turan. According to Sky Sports, the fee is a reported €12 million. Turan had been linked with many of Europe's biggest clubs this summer, including Premier League giants Chelsea. But a move to Stamford Bridge seemed doubtful after Guus Hiddink, the manager of the Turkish national team, was not hired in favor of the young Portuguese Andre Villas-Boas.
Turan provides Atletico Madrid with a clever winger who fancies taking on defenders. He is an ideal replacement for Portuguese left-winger Simão Sabrosa, who ironically left Atletico Madrid for Beşiktaş in December 2010.
Turan has been capped 45 times by the Turkish national team, scoring 11 goals in the process. Since 2006-07 at Galatasaray, Turan has bagged 46 goals and tallied 74 assists in 194 appearances for the Turkish giants.
Atletico Madrid are not just getting on the best young players in Europe, but they're getting one of the most marketable footballers in the world. Back in January of 2010, Arda Turan was named the most popular European footballer of 2009, and second in the world, according to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.
