Everton Transfer Rumors: 4 Strikers That David Moyes Could Move for
The Everton defense is fantastic.
Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin and Tony Hibbert make for a great defense. Unlike many teams, the Toffees' problems are not in the defense, as they already have one of the best in the EPL.
The strikers that Everton have are just not good enough in order for them to be a contender for the Europa League spot. Bigger teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have Rooney, Drogba, Tevez, van Persie, van der Vaart and Carroll, respectively, while Everton's Tim Cahill and Jermain Beckford are simply not in that league.
I am not saying that they aren't good strikers, but Everton doesn't score enough goals every year and need someone else to help them crack the top six. They don't even need to sign a huge name, but it has to be someone good to add with Cahill and Beckford.
Here are four strikers they could target.
Daniel Sturridge
1 of 4Daniel Sturridge is a great, young player who could add to Everton's future. He's extremely fast and strong, while finding it easy to beat defenders and has a great shot off of his left foot. He is one of the many bright prospects of English football.
Sturridge began his senior career at Manchester City, where he made a small name for himself and proceeded to Chelsea. This year, Chelsea loaned him out to Bolton Wanderers, where he was very impressive, scoring eight goals in 12 appearances, an excellent 0.67 scoring record per game.
The 21-year-old hasn't played for the senior English team yet; he has only played for U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and now currently plays for U21, where he has scored four goals in 15 appearances.
So far, Sturridge has been linked to many places, notably Tottenham, Bolton, West Brom, Liverpool and Newcastle, but not to Everton. This doesn't mean that Everton can't come in and snatch him away.
Sturridge would be a great, speedy addition to the Everton squad.
Shaun Wright-Phillips
2 of 4Shaun Wright-Phillips is definitely one of the fastest players in the Premier League. The fact that he is only 5'5" makes it easier for him dart between and past defenders, which is something he is very good at.
Wright-Phillips started his career with Manchester City in 1998, where he scored 26 goals from 153 appearances as the right-winger. In 2005, he moved to Chelsea for three years and didn't score that many goals. Wright-Phillips returned to the Eastlands in 2008 and has been playing there ever since.
Wright-Phillips started playing for the senior English team in 2004, where he has scored six goals in 36 appearances for the Three Lions. He did not, however, traveled to the World Cup in 2006, nor to the one in South Africa in 2010.
The summer transfer window has resulted in Wright-Phillips being linked with several clubs, including Stoke, Bolton, Fulham, Aston Villa, Wigan, Sunderland and more. Again, he hasn't been linked with Everton, but he would be a good steal for the Toffees.
He might not score as much, but he creates goals very well.
Salomon Kalou
3 of 4Salomon Kalou is 26-years-old and he might not have hit his prime years yet. Loaded with potential, the Ivorian striker's numbers didn't match the talent that he was said to have. That's why some people still believe his peak hasn't yet been seen.
Kalou has played at many clubs in his career, starting off with Mimosas, an Ivorian club based in the capital of Abidjan. He then went to Feyenoord, where he scored a fantastic 35 goals in just 65 appearances with the Dutch squad.
After he was loaned to another Dutch club, Excelsior, Kalou proceeded to Chelsea in 2006, where he hasn't always been a consistent starter given that the Blues have Drogba, Anelka and other talented strikers.
For his national team, Kalou has appeared 37 times, where he has had an impressive goal-scoring record of 13. He also traveled with the Elephants to the 2010 World Cup.
So far, Kalou has only been linked to two clubs and not very heavily at that. I think that he would get much more playing time at Everton and also score many more goals.
Peter Crouch
4 of 4Standing at 6'7", Peter Crouch is one of the tallest footballers in the world right now and he is a major target for set pieces.
Though Everton is already comfortable on set pieces, Crouch would provide so much to the aerial attack for the Toffees like he has already to Tottenham. (One of Tottenham's strategies is to just play long balls to Crouch's vicinity, hoping that he can latch on to one and head it down to a team mate. It isn't always unsuccessful.)
Crouch has played at a number of teams like Dulwich Hamlet, IFK Hasselholm, Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich, Southampton, Liverpool and Tottenham.
He has appeared 42 times for the English national team and has scored 22 goals in those appearances. He did travel with the team for both the 2006 World Cup in Germany, as well the one in 2010, which was in South Africa.
Crouch has been linked to Stoke, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and most importantly, Everton. He would get a lot of playing time at Goodison Park, while his heading ability would come in handy for the Toffees.
