Jerricho Cotchery Rumors: The Latest on the Former Jets WR to Steelers, Ravens

So far this offseason, the New York Jets have re-signed Santonio Holmes and added Plaxico Burress to their wide receiver corps.
Braylon Edwards is off to San Francisco and Brad Smith signed with the Buffalo Bills.
Rookie Jeremy Kerley from TCU is in the mix at WR, too, as is the newly signed Derrick Mason.
That's left recently released WR Jerricho Cotchery scrambling around for a new team.
The latest reports indicate he is drawing interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
A week after wooing Plaxico Burress, the Steelers met with another free-agent wide receiver Sunday.
Jerricho Cotchery, an eighth-year NFL veteran, visited the Steelers at St. Vincent on what was an off day for the players.
Cotchery had been with the New York Jets since 2004, but the 6-foot, 207-pounder became expendable after the Jets signed Burress.
The Jets released Cotchery last Thursday at his request.
There are also rumors that the Baltimore Ravens are interested, though the Ravens are saying the opposite.
No matter where Cotchery ends up, he'll definitely be better off than he was with the Jets. Mark Sanchez is still developing as a quarterback and has trouble throwing the ball at times.
Signing with a team that has Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger as its quarterback would be a big boost for Cotchery's value.

The Tennessee Titans still have a lot of question marks behind Kenny Britt in their receiving corps.
The Tennessean reports that the team might be taking a long look at signing free agent Jerricho Cotchery:
"The Titans were interested in free agent receiver and former Titan Derrick Mason, but on Saturday he said he’s signing with the Jets.
The Titans could be in the mix for former Jets receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who failed a physical with the Jets because of a back injury and asked for his release. He was reportedly close to returning to practice.
Former teammates have praised Cotchery’s character and leadership, traits the Titans would like in someone to mentor their young receivers."
Kenny Britt is unreliable at best. He's battled injuries and arrests during his brief career.
When he's on the field, he's great. But, he can't stay on the field very often.
So, if the Titans really do like Cotchery's character and leadership, they should get him and have him mentor Britt.
Plus, Tennessee would be one of the best fits for Cotchery personally, since he'd probably be the No. 2 receiver, starting alongside Britt.

Though the Baltimore Ravens are taking a wait-and-see approach with Jerricho Cotchery, the former Jets wide receiver is receiving some interest from at least one other team, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
"A week after wooing Plaxico Burress, the Steelers met with another free-agent wide receiver Sunday.
Jerricho Cotchery, an eighth-year NFL veteran, visited the Steelers at St. Vincent on what was an off day for the players.
Cotchery had been with the New York Jets since 2004, but the 6-foot, 207-pounder became expendable after the Jets signed Burress.
The Jets released Cotchery last Thursday at his request."
Cotchery would be a good fit in Pittsburgh.
He would be the third or fourth receiver, behind Hines Ward, Mike Wallace and possibly Emmanuel Sanders.
But, being the third or fourth wide receiver on the Steelers is much better than being the third or fourth wide receiver on the Jets.
Cotchery didn't have much value last season once Santonio Holmes' suspension was over.
But, Ben Roethlisberger is a much better quarterback than Mark Sanchez at this point in their careers, so the Steelers seem like a good fit for Cotchery.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore Ravens are taking a wait-and-see approach with former New York Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery.
"After Derrick Mason signed with the New York Jets, it was assumed that the Ravens would pursue Jerricho Cotchery.
Cotchery's agent has talked to the Ravens, but it doesn't appear like the Ravens are aggressively pursuing him. A team source said Cotchery is interested in playing for the Ravens, describing the 29-year-old receiver as a good player and a great person.
Asked if the Ravens were focusing on Cotchery, the source said, "We'll see."
The Ravens have hinted at pairing rookies Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss with Anquan Boldin."
After losing Mason to the Jets and apparently having no intentions of re-signing T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the Ravens need some help in their receiving corps.
Cotchery would provide that, and at a reasonable price.
Relying heavily on Smith and Doss doesn't seem like a good idea for the Ravens.
If they don't get another veteran wide receiver before the start of the season, expect Boldin to be double-teamed more often.
That will make things a whole lot harder on Joe Flacco.
