Johnson Dominates At Phoenix and Puts a Stranglehold On Nascar's Top Prize!
With 1 race to go 141 points separate Jimmie Johnson from Carl Edwards. This means that the 48 has to finish next week's race 36th place or better to win his third title. Last season's numbers had Jeff Gordon behind the 48 by 87 points after Phoenix. Today's race was entertaining. All kinds of racing going on all over the track. Jamie McMurray showed he will be a force in 2009 with a great run. The 24 ran well all day till he succumb to engine failure. Kurt Busch showed he had some moxy late, trying to give Jimmie a run for his money with three laps to go. The 99 ran fast and made up some spots late, earlier he had complained about the car not being good on restarts and short runs and it showed. Man if only JR could have passed him late ... lol. The 88 had a good car all day and managed a 6th place finish...Next week is Homestead a place where all the fords run well. Will Jimmie push it, or just lay back for an average finish. I don't think he will be looking for any trouble, but you can bet Carl will be pushing hard as always.. I can tell you as a 48 fan i've enjoyed this chase more then any other....but for the rest of you who follow other drivers there were many other great stories during this season. Kyle Busch's regular season and nationwide success, Carl Edwards showing he has the stuff that makes Champions. Tony Stewart breaking off in 2009 to start his own team and many more... Nascar has already announced there will be no changes as far as the chase format is concerned for 2009. Whether you like it or not we are stuck with it for now... For you 99 fans, Carl is not giving up and neither should you, because anything could happen... Have a good night all and see you next week at homestead...
