The Stanford women’s basketball team has been ranked No. 2 in both the AP poll and Coaches poll. Last season Stanford defeated UConn in the Final Four and then lost to Tennessee in the championship game.

The Cardinal will be led by first-team All-Pac-10 pick Jayne Appel as well as the league’s reigning Freshman of the Year in Kayla Pedersen.

Jayne Appel has been named to the John R. Wooden Award preseason top 30. She posted 12 double-doubles on the year and set a new school single-season record with 84 blocked shots in 2007-08.
