Matt Carle to Philadelphia, Steve Downie, Steve Eminger Go Back to Tampa

The Tampa Bay Lightning continue in their efforts to rebuild their team. The Bolts have traded off-season acquisition Matt Carle and a San Jose third round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for the fourth round pick Tampa sent to the Flyers as part of the Vaclav Prospal deal last season.

Tampa Bay also gets youngster Steve Downie and defenseman Steve Eminger.

In a good trade for both teams, the Flyers get a good, responsible, puck moving defenseman in Carle. I don't think Tampa gave Matt enough time to come out of the slump he's in. I think he'll have no problem picking up his game and will turn into a 17 plus minute guy for the Flyers who seem to always be in need of defensemen.

On the flip side, Tampa Bay gets a gritty prospect in Steve Downie. He may have had his problems but is still capable of playing in the NHL. Look for Downie to be a 20 goal scorer and character player for the Bolts a few years down the road.

The second half of this trade goes by the name of Steve Eminger; Eminger can be a solid fourth or fifth defenseman for almost any team in the NHL. He does his job well and he can sometimes light the lamp.

Overall, it was a good trade for both teams and I'm crossing my fingers that it makes my Maple Leafs begin working the phones.
