USC Football Recruiting: DL Pio Vatuvei Commits to the Trojans

Patterson (Calif.) defensive lineman Pio Vatuvei committed to USC today. He posted it on Facebook, "Just committed to USC, ayy I'm a Trojan now, Fight On!!!!"

Several weeks ago he narrowed schools to Cal and USC, but he committed as soon as the Trojans offered today.

Vatuvei had offers from more than dozen schools, and USC was one of few West Coast schools holding back a scholarship offer.

"I love coach Orgeron, coach Helton and coach Kiffin, but coach Helton especially because I have built a strong relationship with him," Vatuvei said. "It's USC, you can't go wrong with the tradition and the academics out there.

He is 6’3” and 270 pounds with a 4.65 shuttle time and 32 inch vertical leap. Vatuvei is a great replacement for DE Steve Dillon who was released by USC in July after failing to qualify academically.

He also plays RB in high school and had 500 yards last year while being used primarily for blocking. However, he expects to get over 1,000 yards this year. Not bad for a defensive lineman.

Vatuvei could play DE or grow into a DT.

He becomes 2012 commitment No.10 for the Trojans.
