Sweet Lou Looking West? Cubs Want Mark Texiera

It is no secret in Chicago that Derrek Lee hasn't been performing very well, however they have noticed Mark Texiera is performing and is a free-agent. Derrek Lee had been an amazing player starting with the Florida Marlins and winning the 2003 World Series, but since coming to Chicago he has noticed a drop in power.

In 2005 Lee's slugging percentage was .662 and now it has dropped .200 so he is at .462. Also in 2005 he hit 46 home runs, this year he hit 20 home runs. He is amazing at defense, stopping many "would be" runs.

Mark Texiera is an elite first baseman. He would be joining Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman, and Prince Fielder as the 4th spectacular 1st baseman of the NL Central. Since arriving in LA he has batted .358, hit in 13 home runs, and 43 RBI's in 58 games. If he stayed with the Braves all season long he would no doubt be in MVP discussions.

Texiera is finding himself to be a player with no attachments. He was a Texas Ranger at the beginning of last season, then in mid-season he was traded to the Braves as a last chance effort to make it to the playoffs. This year he started with the Alanta Braves and was then traded to the Angels just games before the Angels clinched the AL West.

It is a long shot but imagine Mark Texiera batting in the same lineup as Alfonso Soriano, Geovany Soto, Aramis Ramirez, Kosuke Fukudome, and Mark DeRosa. 2009 World Series would be an understatement.
