The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially proved that they are serious about making a playoff push this season.  Yesterday they traded for Jason Marquis to beef up their starting rotation.  Today, they improved their bullpen by trading prospects Brandon Allen and Jordan Norberto to the Oakland Athletics for sidearmer Brad Ziegler.

Allen did not impress much in 11 games this season, only going 5 for 29.  Still, three of those five hits were home runs and he had 7 RBI.  On top of that, his OBP was an unbelievable .351.

Given that statistic along with his being a powerful lefty bat, it's no wonder that Oakland GM Billy Beane wanted him.

On the Diamondbacks' end, the team is receiving a dominant middle man in Ziegler.  This season, he has posted a 2.39 ERA.  The only mark against him is his 1.35 WHIP.

Still, Ziegler gives the Diamondbacks a relief pitcher who can absolutely dominate righties as well as be a reliable piece of the bridge to closer David Hernandez.  Considering the players Oakland is receiving, it appears that the moneyball carousel is once again in business.
