It's a Start: Cuddyer for Atkins?

The general manager meetings are never made much of a big deal, it's the Winter Meetings at the beginning of December that draw all of the attention from the national media and fans around the country. But the general manager meetings following the World Series are quite critical. They set up later moves, and while most of the talk is kept close to the vest, talks do go on.

It was at the GM meetings last season that the Delmon Young deal started. The deal wasn't completed until a few weeks later, but the names exchanged here started the fire, and eventually the deal was done.

It was also the GM meetings last season in which Johan Santana trade rumors first leaked. Before this time, the idea of trading Santana was never really considered. The GM meetings changed that, and while a deal never went down in that week (they actually didn't go down at the Winter Meetings either), the reported trade that the Mets offered did go down later in the off-season.

This time around the organization has many needs, and you can be sure that although we have heard nearly nothing, the front office is working diligently to upgrade at third, shortstop and in the bullpen.

One of the main ways to upgrade at third is with trades. Whether it be Kevin Kouzmanoff, Adrian Beltre or Garrett Atkins, trades have been rumored. Today, we heard some (minor) news regarding a possible trade with Colorado.

The Twins and Rockies have had preliminary trade talks regarding Garrett Atkins, with Michael Cuddyer a possibility to go to Colorado in return.

It's still early, and 'preliminary' is a rather small word, but all talks are good talks, and as we saw last season, small talk in early November can turn into a big deal in December.

With all this said, what are your thoughts on this possibility?
