MMA Breaking News: Alistair Overeem Cut by Strikeforce
It seems the storm brewing between heavyweight Alistair Overeem and his employer Strikeforce has quickly come to an abrupt halt.
HDNet's Inside MMA has just reported that Overeem has received a "cut letter" from the promotion and Strikeforce has exercised their right to eliminate the final fight of his current contract. This information was reported to Inside MMA's Ron Kruk from a source very close to the situation.
The source also reported that Overeem is suffering from more serious injuries than originally reported and that, including the toe and rib injury, he is also having problems with his elbow.
Adding to the injury and timing complications of Overeem continuing in the heavyweight grand prix, it was also an issue that Overeem had only one fight left on his contract and that he would have to fight two fights to complete to the end of the tourney.
Could this be a release in order to renegotiate with Alistair and get this thing back on the rails? Or is this what it appears on the surface, the end to Overeem competing with the best of his division on this side of the ocean?
Stay tuned—this saga may just be starting.
