After making several mistakes this year, the Baltimore Orioles currently have nothing going right for them.
Failing to retain right-handed pitcher Steve Trachsel towards the end of last season was their first error. Trachsel was one of the Orioles' main pitchers before they released him. Especially when ace Erik Bedard was hurt, Trachsel stepped in and came through in the clutch.
Baltimore's second mistake was letting Kris Benson walk. The righty would have been a solid middle starter on this year's team.
The Orioles were wrong to reward reliever Chad Bradford with a three-year $10.5 million deal. Bradford hasn't helped since he got there.
The decision to put Brian Burres in the bullpen was also questionable. He was a mediocre reliever, but a whole lot better as a starter. Burres is a great young pitcher who is developing quickly. He should remain in the rotation.
Lastly, we come down to Bedard. We are talking about, in my opinion, the best pitcher in the AL. The O's are talking about trading him to the Mets or Mariners, which would be one of the worst, if not the worst, mistake the Orioles would ever make. He led the team in every pitching statistic for starters.
So please, if you are ignorant enough to make a trade with Bedard, then FREE THE BIRDS!
