Fans were waiting and waiting for over an hour before the start of camp. The band was playing and the place was rocking.

Heck, even the new Mayor of the City of Jacksonville, Alvin Brown, was in attendance and his message was clear. The citizens of Jacksonville must fill the stadium and Brown will do everything in his power to help.

He's right.

Once the players showed up, the frenzy began. Alualu! David! Dreeeeeww! Football is back.

The practice was rather light, helmets and shorts without much contact. It was basically a mini-camp. The team will wear shells tomorrow night however. The team warmed up together, then split up into position groups. In the middle of this and special teams work an eruption began by the entrance.

Blaine Gabbert signed a four-year contract with a fifth-year option. The contract apparently includes $12 million guaranteed.

An already exciting event became complete hysteria throughout practice. David Garrard, Josh McCown and Scott Riddle took turns under center.

Who should start, week one?

People began to murmur, "When's Gabbert going to get a turn?"

It was heard through the crowd for a good 10 minutes. Then finally Gabbert stepped under center for his first snaps as a Jaguar.

One hand off, then back to the position group. It was comical, as if the coaches were toying with the crowd.

Eventually, Gabbert did take some snaps. Practice ended on a pass in between the cornerback and safety. It was a well-thrown ball that the receiver caught on a comeback route.

Good stuff for day one.

Also of note, Aaron Kampman was moving quickly in lateral motion.

Pot Roast was unable to practice because he's 20 pounds overweight.

Cecil Shorts caught a nice pass with his arms outstretched from Luke McCown. The kid is fast.

Also, Tiquan Underwood is sporting a high-top fade to rival The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It's a good thing he's no longer a rookie.

All rookie draft picks were signed. Will Rackley even got some work with the ones because Vince Manuwai has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fans can attend tomorrow night's padded practice at the Blue Cross & Blue Shield Health and Wellness Practice Field at 7 p.m. EST.
