5 Possible Win-Win NFL Trade Scenarios
NFL players can get traded for numerous reasons.
They may no longer be needed by their team. The player could be a cancer to a team's chemistry. Whatever the reason, we rarely see trades that are considered to be a win for both teams.
Take the Kevin Kolb to Arizona trade that happened yesterday. Philadelphia won because they got an exceptional cornerback and a high draft pick. It would be hard to consider the Cardinals a winner though because we really don't know what Kolb brings to the field.
There are always exceptions to the rule and here are five possible win-win trade scenarios that we could see before the NFL season begins.
Darrius Heyward-Bey to Jacksonville Jaguars for Draft Pick
1 of 5Why would Jacksonville trade a draft pick for a receiver that has been a bust so far in his career?
Well, for starters, the Jaguars don't really have any noteworthy receivers on their roster right now. Darrius Heyward-Bey wouldn't be considered an elite talent, but he is still young and could figure out the game and become a decent player.
Jacksonville would most likely need to give up a mid-round pick, which if Heyward-Bey developed into a deep threat, could be considered a steal.
Oakland would win in this scenario by picking up a draft pick to continue building their team. They already have a very young group of receivers, and losing Heyward-Bey most likely wouldn't hurt too bad.
Brandon Jacobs to Cincinnati Bengals for Keith Rivers and Draft Pick
2 of 5With the recent legal troubles of Cedric Benson, Cincinnati should be looking to pick up a new running back. This could be done through free agency, but why not trade for a big talent like Jacobs?
The Giants are in desperate need of some linebackers, and Keith Rivers has had a solid career and could step in and produce instantly. They would most likely need to throw in a late-round draft pick and maybe a mid-round draft pick to complete the deal.
If Cincinnati could get a player of Jacob's talents, they could be a dangerous team to play. Losing Rivers would hurt, but the Bengals have a young defense with players ready to step in and start at linebacker.
Osi Umenyiora to Minnesota Vikings for E.J. Henderson and Draft Pick
3 of 5I'm not trying to pick on the Giants here, but Osi Umenyiora has had some trouble with GM Jerry Reese, and that is a recipe for getting traded.
We already know that New York is in desperate need of some linebackers, and E.J. Henderson is a veteran starter. However, due to his age, Minnesota would most likely need to throw in a second- or third-round draft pick to get this deal.
Should Minnesota land Umenyiora, they could stop worrying about signing Ray Edwards. The duo of Jared Allen and Umenyiora would be nearly unstoppable and would make the Vikings defense all the more dangerous.
Vincent Jackson to St. Louis Rams for Draft Picks
4 of 5Vincent Jackson was on the trading block last year and appears to be on it again this year. He has a huge price tag, and not many teams are willing to pay what the Chargers are almost certainly looking for.
One team that might be willing to make a respectable offer the Jackson would be the St. Louis Rams. They still lack that elite receiver and adding a player like Jackson would help immensely in the development of future superstar Sam Bradford.
St. Louis is a young team and would most likely have to give up numerous high draft picks to grab Jackson. However, in a weak NFC West, adding him would make the Rams the clear favorites to emerge as division champions.
San Diego nearly made the playoffs without Jackson for the majority of the season, so losing him at this point doesn't seem to detrimental. The Chargers would also be in a good position for next year's draft to pick up some great talent in the early rounds.
Carson Palmer to Seattle Seahawks for Draft Picks
5 of 5As of right now, it appears as is Carson Palmer isn't going anywhere. We all know how quickly things can change in the NFL.
Seattle lost Matt Hasselbeck and brought in Tarvaris Jackson to challenge Charlie Whitehurst for the starting quarterback position. Neither of those players screams starter.
Palmer, on the other hand, still has some juice left, and a change of scenery might be good for him.
When Cincinnati decided to not give into Palmer's trade demands, it was pretty shocking. They drafted Andy Dalton but still wouldn't let Palmer go. If they could get some decent draft picks, the Bengals should definitely pull the trigger.
They have a young group of players to build around, and even though they might no contend this year, with a few extra picks in next year's draft, they could do some damage.
