Class of 2012 point guard Dominic Artis has committed to play his college basketball at UCLA. Artis is ranked as the 81st overall player on Rivals' top 100 list. In the end, UCLA was chosen over
Cal, Florida State, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Baylor and Florida International.
Many are unfamiliar with Artis, but he is definitely one of the best, if not the best West Coast point guard in the class of 2012. Back in May, when I interviewed Artis, he said nothing about UCLA. His recruitment really skyrocketed the past few months, and now with Artis and Larry Drew III, who
transferred from North Carolina, the Bruins look to be set at the point guard position for a few years.
Many great point guards have recently come through UCLA and are now having great success in the NBA. Those names include Russell Westbrook, Jrue Holiday and Darren Collison. And don’t forget Baron Davis as well.
Artis told this to Scout.com after his UCLA commitment, “When they first started recruiting me
they told me they really wanted me to be apart of their program,” he said. “Once I started playing better after Pangos, they really stressed to me that they needed a point guard and I could come in and play.”
