In a very surprising move on Wednesday, the Oakland Raiders cut ties with star cornerback DeAngelo Hall. Hall, who had signed a seven-year, $72 million dollar deal with Oakland shortly after arriving via trade in the offseason, had not been playing well.  But still...

"I've never been in a situation where you cut one of the best players," said safety Gibril Wilson, another of the team's offseason acquisitions. "That's strange to me. It's almost like we're throwing in the towel."

Interim Raiders coach Tom Cable said he was thinking about even more changes to the starting lineup  Owner Al Davis had given his staff a list of potential players who could be let go, and Hall was the first casualty.  But perhaps not the last.

For his efforts, Hall was paid one million dollars per game this year, a total of $8m over the eight games. He had struggled to adjust to the Raiders man-to-man defense but had been playing better of late.

So who's next? Wide Receiver Jevon Walker received an $11m signing bonus in the offseason, yet has only caught 13 balls thus far.  The only thing for certain is that the shakeup will continue.

"When you're losing there's a lot of finger pointing," Nnamdi Asomugha said. "I don't think he's the one scapegoat. There's fingers pointed everywhere. I don't think it's just him. He was kind of singled out in regards of let's cut someone."

Maybe Al Davis should be the next one cut, come to think of it...
