Nnamdi Asomugha Rumors: Setting Signing Odds for Jets, 49ers and Texans
Nnamdi Asomugha, the prize jewel of this year's free agency, is still unsigned.
However, the teams that are most interested in making an offer to Asomugha have been reduced greatly. It now appears as if the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans are the main teams in the running.
We will look at the odds that each of these teams has at signing one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
New York Jets
1 of 3Odds of signing with the Jets: 60 percent
New York is the clear front runner for Nnamdi Asomugha. Rex Ryan loves him as a player and supposedly, the feeling is mutual.
This is somewhat of a surprising move because of the depth of the Jets secondary, but this is a once in a lifetime type player that is too good to pass up. Asomugha and Darrelle Revis would be the most feared cornerback duo to ever play the game.
San Francisco 49ers
2 of 3Odds of signing with the 49ers: 10 percent
There is no doubt that the 49ers need some help at cornerback, but this is a long shot.
San Francisco appears to be too many pieces away from a legit playoff run. As much as the 49ers would love Nnamdi Asomugha, I just don't see it happening.
Houston Texans
3 of 3Odds of signing with the Texans: 30 percent
I think the Texans are a dark horse in this race. It would certainly be a surprise if Asomugha ended up with Houston, but we can't count the Texans out. We have seen crazier things happen before.
The reason I kind of like Houston and Asomugha is because the Texans appear to be one cornerback away from a legitimate Super Bowl contender. They have one of the best offenses and a stout front seven. If they could stop the pass at all, they would be very dangerous.
Even though New York appears to be the main team right now, we certainly can't count out Houston.
