Three Cheers for Kevin Weekes!

JerseySenior Analyst INovember 6, 2008

Like any fan of the New Jersey Dev—I mean, the New Jersey S, I hated seeing Martin Brodeur get injured, and I was even more upset to hear he'd be missing significant time.

But there was a part of me that was actually a little happy. Happy for Kevin Weekes, that is.

The guy is really not bad. It sucks for him that he was trapped behind Brodeur last year, the workhorse who plays 87 out of 82 games every year. But now, with Brodeur on the shelf for a while, we can see what this guy can do.

Well, he showed up tonight, and held his own in a shootout win against the Lightning. He's looked really good since replacing Brodeur against Atlanta a few games ago, and if he can somehow manage to keep it up, it'd be a huge boost for the team.

But even if he plays like nothing more than a great backup, S fans should be happy to see him in net. No, he's not Marty, and he's nowhere near as good. But he's a good guy, and it's nice to see him get his chance.

Here's to Kevin Weekes, and here's to hoping he pulls off a miracle. Let's go S!
