NFL Trade Speculation: Vince Young Won't Survive as a Backup in the NFL
Vince Young isn't going to be playing quarterback in Tennessee ever again, but he's lucky he's still got a shot in the league at all.
Once the best rookie in the NFL, Young has undergone a "weird" transformation that has put his mental health in question far too often for someone trying to play the quarterback position in the NFL.
We've seen physically gifted players come and go at the quarterback position—Steven Young arguably being the most successful of them—but longevity, production and ultimately, success, is found by quarterbacks that are as effective with their brain as they are with their arm.

I'm not talking about Young's intelligence, I'm talking about his actual willingness to play the game.
Vince Young Is A "Head Case"
Nobody knows whether this true or if it is just people throwing the word around, but what we do know is that Vince Young has had his fair share of problems.
Young has disappeared from home, been involved with "weird" late night events and even threatened to quit football mostly because of the way he was being treated in Tennessee. He wasn't happy with being benched, wasn't happy with the fans and, if we could take his previous success as any indication, wasn't necessarily happy with himself.
Now I can't say I know all that for sure, but what I can say is that the mental aptitude, discipline and focus it takes to play quarterback in the NFL is unlike anything else in sports. There is no other position like it, and if Young isn't comfortable with himself, teams will have a hard time being comfortable with him.
The Trade Options
There really aren't a ton of trade options for Vince Young. The most "possible" scenarios include Philadelphia and Miami, who, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, "have done a lot of work evaluating Vince Young. Not sure that he lands either place but in-depth evaluations/background."
Philadelphia is obviously an intriguing option, more so than Miami anyway, and if Kevin Kolb goes you''ll hear those rumors start up in earnest more than they are now.
The Dolphins added undrafted rookie quarterback Pat Devlin today and there is some reason to be excited about him competing for a back up role. Young isn't necessarily the type of player they need down there right now.
Washington also has to be an option, but I can't see Young fitting in with Mike Shanahan at all. The Redskins' owner may consider it, but I have a hard time seeing the coach making that move.
All in all, at this point in time, there really isn't a lot of interest generated in the former superstar.
Where Will Vince Young Ultimately Land?
This all depends on the rest of free agency. Tennessee is obviously set on bringing in a veteran to help groom Jake Locker, but Young may have to wait to find his next home a bit longer.
As training camp unfolds there will be injuries, plenty of injuries this year because of the lockout, and that is when Young will find his true chance.
I don't think it will be the Eagles or the Dolphins, but I wouldn't rule out a team like the Texans, who are set to see Matt Leinart possibly re-join his college coach in Seattle.
Another possible team, and completely with no source of legitimacy at all, is Dallas. Tony Romo is in a make-or-break year, Jerry Jones has never been opposed to flash, and he also took a similar shot on Quincy Carter a few years ago.
In the end, I think Young will find a home, not as a starter, when an injury or bad situation forces a team to find a quarterback quickly.
