WWE Gives CM Punk Great Theme Song at Worst Possible Moment

Marc QuarantaJun 4, 2018

If you watched Monday Night Raw last night, you were one of the millions...and millions (sorry Great One, I had to) to witness history, not once, not twice, but on three significant occasions.

The first was Rey Mysterio becoming the very first WWE Champion in the HHH 'ownership era' by beating The Miz to open the show. The second was when the WWE Championship changed hands a second time to end the show when Mysterio dropped the Title to none other than John Cena. Now I don't know how you felt about this part, but we can save our opinions on yet another Cena championship reign another time, because right now I want to talk about the ball that was dropped by the WWE in the last three minutes of Raw last night.

CM Punk has been walking around the WWE with the same theme music since day one. While it's an awesome song, I would agree with most people that it was time for a change, but why last night? Why would you do it on such a historical night? And why, WWE, I ASK YOU, WHY! would you change it when there is no one hotter in the WWE, in the world of wrestling, than CM Punk? This man has made news like we have never seen before in professional wrestling over the last month.

And I know what you're thinking, why does it matter? Because yes, in a couple of years, the only thing people are going to remember about that night was Punk and Cena both holding up their championship belts, but as a fan, I believe the WWE missed on something that they had complete control over. WWE is the one company in the world that pretty much controls their audiences. They do, really, without us knowing it. They control who we cheer, boo, scream at, and so on. And at this moment, they could have controlled the audience to into blowing the roof off in Hampton, VA.

If you remember Money In The Bank no more than three weeks ago, you will remember witnessing one of, if not the, largest ovations ever heard for any superstar. I honestly don't believe The Rock, Hogan or Stone Cold ever got the people to scream that loud or be that devoted to a person like hometown native CM Punk did for Chicago. If you don't believe me, watch it again, or for the first time. It's nuts!

WWE, if you played the guitar riff that comes at the beginning of CM's original song, last night, instead of the new "Cult of Personality," you very well could have had the largest ovation, without question, from that audience. They had chanted his name several times throughout the night, they were wearing the T-shirts and carrying the signs, they needed CM Punk to tear the roof off of that place, but guess what...

WWE never let it happen! The beginning of the song left the audience wondering who was being introduced, and then when they saw it was Punk they were excited, but confused. Everyone was busy wondering "wait is this his new song?" or "will he always use this?", and by the time they were done they remembered they still have to cheer. He's back! WWE killed it.

Again, I know it isn't a huge deal, but if you think about the ovation he would have gotten, it could have been the moment of the decade...and it quite possibly could have topped the promo that put him on the map in the first place.
