With the NBA season underway, we take a look back at some of the NBA's most psychedelic superstars with the NBA's All-Anything Team:"High" Flyers.
Coincidentally, they all have cool nicknames...
G: Jason Williams, Sacramento Kings
White Chocolate was suspended for the first five games of the 2001-2002 season for failing to comply with his drug-treatment plan. Prior to that, Williams was kicked off the team his sophomore season at Florida for testing positive for marijuana. Surprisingly he still excelled at no-look passes and behind-the-back dribbling.
G: Damon Stoudamire, Portland Trail Blazers
Part of the Jail Blazers Portland teams, Mighty Mouse was charged with possession of the ganja when a bag was found at his home in February of 2002. He was later cleared of the charges, as prosecutors could not justify their warrantless search. Often times he seemed unmotivated on the floor and extremely relaxed on the bench.
F: Chris Andersen, New Orleans Hornets
The Birdman received a two-year ban from the NBA after violating the league's substance abuse policy in 2006. Question: Exactly how stoned was he during the '04-'05 Slam Dunk Contest?
F: Isaiah Rider, Timberwolves, Hawks, Blazers, Lakers
Rider, who inexplicably gave himself the nickname J.R., was arrested for possession of marijuana with all these teams. If I had to guess, I'd say the J.R. stood for Jonesing Reefer.
C: Bill Walton, Portland Trail Blazers
Wow, another Trail Blazer—I'm starting to see a trend here. This one's a gimme, the Big Red-Head was a Deadhead—there's no way he passed on grass.
So there you have it, the starting five. Let me know if you have any suggestions to fill the bench, because there is no way these guys have the lung capacity to get up and down the court for a full 48 minutes.
