College Football Recruiting 2012: The Worst Classes in the BCS Conferences
Right now is where coaches really can take a step back and assess their current recruiting class and really formulate a plan going forward. Recruiting will take a tad of a step back because coaches are just days away from opening up camp.
So with that said, we think we can examine who's doing well right now and who's doing not so well. Some teams need lots of help and are having a tough time on the recruiting trail and others are having an even worse effort.
Here are the worst recruiting classes in BCS conferences.
7. Arizona
1 of 7'Zona's class is a lot like Pittsburgh's in the sense of they have a solid number of commitments, but none of the players are 4-star prospects.
They have a good nine pledges, but again no player is rated at least 4-stars and three of them are actually 2-star recruits.
The highest-rated player is 3-star OC Beau Boyster.
6. Pitt
2 of 7Out of nine players in this class, only three are 3-star recruits. That's not good if you ask me.
I know stud RBs William Mahone and Rushel Shell have been mentioned with Pitt, but the Panthers need some more star power in their class.
Todd Graham is new on the job and I'm sure he's grinding, but quality has to be stressed a bit more by the looks of things.
5. Kansas State
3 of 7Usually the Wildcats strike gold within the JC ranks and that's where a good portion of their recruiting efforts go towards.
Well, right now they have no JC pledges and six overall high school commits. The highest-rated player is a 3-star LB in Will Davis and also 3-star WR Tre Raybon.
K-State and Bill Snyder have to get going when we get to the home stretch.
4. Minnesota
4 of 7Another class with a lot of quantity and little quality. The Golden Gophers have 18 commits lined up but none of the players are star names right now.
They have no 4-star commits and just three players are rated 3-stars per Scout.com. Jerry Kill's a great coach and his staff does a solid job in developing players, but I think they need to haul in a bit more of a higher quality of talent.
3. Iowa
5 of 7Iowa got off to a slow start this year as their first commitment didn't come until April and four of their five commitments have come this month in June.
But they did get Jaleel Johnson, a stud 4-star DT that will certainly be a high level player for the Hawkeyes. After that, I just don't like what I see.
I know Iowa is not a juggernaut on the trail but a class seven low profile recruits outside of Johnson isn't too impressive.
2. UConn
6 of 7On paper, 11 cmmitments looks great for new Husky chief Paul Pasqualonni, but this class is all quality. The highest-rated player is just 3-star DT Mikal Myers, from Newburgh, NY, not Haddonfield, Ill.
After Myers, the class is chalked full of 2-star and not ranked recruits and I'm in doubt about any potential high level players coming to Stoors during this cycle.
Things don't look as good as they appear for UConn on the trail right now.
1. Kansas
7 of 7The Jayhawks didn't have a good class last year and in reality, 2012 looks the same.
The 2012 Jayhawk class, right now, is a three-commit unit with a 2-star CB in Daniel Gray, a 3-star OT in Brian Beckmann and a non-rated player in CB Derek Keaton.
Turner Gill may be headed for one of the worst classes in the country.
