Fergie Isn’t Fiddling About… He Wants A Result Against Celtic

In the past, Sir Alex Ferguson has chopped and changed our team against opposition he felt we were too strong for, in order to rest our big guns for the bigger teams, only to end up with egg on his face and points dropped. Whilst it has been a while since I’ve seen such an occasion, I don’t rule out the fact Ferguson hasn’t entirely learnt from his lesson, too tempted to rest players to always show the opposition the deserved respect.

Whilst we know that Gary Neville, Edwin Van der Sar and Wes Brown haven’t made the trip to Scotland, Ferguson has moved to reasure the fans that he will be playing a strong side, to ensure we’re not scrapping for points in the remaining games, with the pressure on.

“Hopefully I can give a few players some minutes on the pitch,” said Ferguson. “But I’ll be picking a team to get a result. That’s the important thing: we’re not fiddling about here. We did that in 2006 and threw away a game [against FC Copenhagen in Denmark]. We can’t afford to do that.”

Celtic beat us the season before last in the European Cup, after Louis Saha missed a last minute penalty, bottling it in front of the impressive crowd. Whilst the game at Old Trafford was painfully easy, we shouldn’t be naive enough to expect the away trip will be the same.

With our ten day break over Christmas in Japan, United really need to make sure they get the Champions League group spot wrapped up, to ensure we can pick up as many points in the league as possible, so we can come back in January not too far behind.

What result and line-up do you fancy tonight?
