The NFL undrafted rookie signings started this morning and it started with a bang for Gopher fans. Former University of Minnesota QB Adam Weber has signed with the Denver Broncos.
In Denver, Weber will reunite with one of his favorite targets, former Gopher wideout Eric Decker. This tandem was deadly and one of the few bright spots for the Gophers in the past few years, but I wouldn't expect it be the same in the pros.
Weber is joining a Broncos team with an already crowded pack at QB. Tim Tebow, Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn are already on the roster and it's hard to believe that Weber will get significant playing time or even make the team. It's still going to be fun to possibly see Weber throw up a deep one to Decker in a preseason game.
No one will really care about this combo outside of the state of Minnesota, but any good you can get out of the Gopher football program you'll take. It's just really good to see two former Gophers in the pros and even a little cooler that they're on the same team. If you dig into the depth chart a little bit further, you see that former Gopher running back Laurence Maroney is also on the Broncos.
These former Gophers may not be the best players or even starters in the NFL, but it gives some hope to the University of Minnesota football program.
