Things in MLB That Make Me Ask "Why?"
Why doesn't MLB try to discourage the use of chewing tobacco on the field and in the dugout?
Outside of pitchers, why do players need a "day off?" Is running 90 feet a couple times a day that strenuous? Are the five-star hotel rooms too uncomfortable?
Why don't umpires (especially behind the plate) wear more protective gear? They hardly need to move. It seems once a week another ump gets drilled by a ball and the game is delayed. Wear some damn football shoulder pads. Switch to a hockey helmet.
And if the first and third-base coaches have to wear helmets, why the hell don't the umpires on the field? It's only a matter of time til something terrible happens.
Why do the games take so damn long? Why are pitchers allowed an infinite amount of time to deliver the ball to the plate? Why does it take 10 minutes to bring a new pitcher into the game?
Why is there a hill in Minute Maid Park's centerfield? Who the hell approved that?
Why aren't there more doubleheaders? The MLB season runs way too late into October, and soon it's going to spill into November. The weather is going to become an extreme factor in playoff games.
Why is there a DH rule in the American League? The same nine players in the field should bat. Why not? A ballplayer is a ballplayer.
