Aston Villa in Line to Capture Chalres N'Zogbia After Fee Agreed with Wigan
Multiple sources are claiming that Charles N'Zogbia is on his way to Aston Villa pending a medical and the agreeing of personal terms with the club. The deal is reportedly set for £9.5 million and will be the second major capture of the window for Villa after they signed Shay Given last week.
Alex McLeash has been chasing the Wigan want-away and former Newcastle United man since several days after he accepted the loss of Stewart Downing to Liverpool for £20 million. With that money now being used to fund his last two incoming players in £4 million for N'Zogbia's former teammate at Newcastle, Shay Given, and then the newly announced £9.5 million for the wide player.
The manager has had an eye for the winger for some time, as he had attempted to bring him to Birmingham City last season. Luckily for him, that move fell apart in the latter stages, which has now given him the opportunity to bring him to his new club.
Wigan Athletic will have to turn and reinvest quickly as they will be without one of their best attackers if the move goes through, which it should. With the team currently in Hong Kong, N'Zogbia will likely wait to meet up with the squad when they return from their Asian preseason tour.
McLeash more than likely will still be active in the market, as the loss of Ashley Young to Manchester United means there is still is a gaping hole in their attack. Youngster Marc Albrighton will be the most likely candidate as they will seek to promote from with-in, but the manager will still most likely want another player to come in as cover.
Further rumors have Villa also possibly in the hunt for West Ham's Scott Parker. Also, a possible second move for a Manchester City player as Shaun Wright-Phillips is also now on their radar.
