Greetings fight fans! I'll be providing live news and analysis from the Amir Khan-Zab Judah 140-pound title unification bout, as well as a post-fight wrap-up.
These are the types of fights true fight fans love. Up-and-coming star pitted against the grizzled veteran who may be on his last prizefighting leg.
Keep it here for all the latest on Khan-Judah, where both fighters are putting title belts are on the line.
Sometimes, all you need is 15 minutes to prove a point. In the 5th round Amir Khan landed the last of his emotional/physical blows to the body and confidence of Zab Judah.
Judah took a borderline shot, right on the gold belt line of his glittery sequins trunks and went down like he had been harpooned in the midsection. The shot was moderate but the straight right hand two seconds before was substantial.
This punch was landing with increasing regularity through the fight. Zab never seemed to get off or find the range against the bigger, stronger and sharper Khan. He dominated the fight so much, I wonder how much this says about Khan or Judah.
Is Judah truly the gatekeeper? Well, Khan surely has to be ready for Tim Bradley and I wonder how someone of that physical dimension can seriously challenge Khan. Bradley will have to go to the body to slow him down. This is something Judah didn't do at all. Nor did he counter with the left hook and it was there early.
Those that saw the fight witnessed a reaffirmation in Khan's rise and possibly the commencement of Judah's descent.
Zab was trying to buy a penalty point. He realized he couldn't win the fight, took a shot right on the belt line. He fell to the canvas in a delayed manner. He didn't get up, from this questionable shot.
You could call this a TKO, Total Khan Outclassing. Zab just quit in the ring, it was disappointing to see it end this way, but it would've been more punishment for Judah.
Amir Khan has a passion for the sport that is impressive. You match that with an exceptional amount of size and physical skills and you have one of the sports most exciting and talented fighters.
khan is making this look easy through four rounds. As the fight continues, he is getting hit with cleaner shots. He is having an issue getting off, missing opportunities to counter.
Khan is dropping his right hand when he fires the left hook. Judah is missing his chance to counter and change the fight.
The physical advantage is too much for Zab right now.
Amir Khan's jab has been the punch of the first two rounds. Zab is attempting to show some patience, obviously aware of his penchant to tire in the late rounds.
He must be careful not to allow khan to get too far ahead on the cards. Khan has easily won the first two rounds. Judah seems legitimately bothered by the size disadvantage
What a transformation for Zab Judah. From a Hebrew-Israelite rumored to date Lil Kim to family man and Marvin Sapp, "Never Would've Made It" as an entrance song.
Hopefully, the maturity carries itself into the ring. Whether its in defeat or in victory, I hope Judah represents himself better than in previous bouts.
This is so clearly one of those "I used to be you" types of matches. As Zab said in the preview, he has been where Khan is right now.
Michael Buffer is about ready, he just rumbled and we are almost ready to go. Zab's twitter messages, his support and all that is secondary now. He has to perform on a high stage, which he hasn't been abl to do before.
Jim Lampley sets up the fight with his trademark big fight voice and timing. Emanuel Steward and Max Kellerman are doing the fight with Lampley.
I'm hoping we are spared Larry Merchant tonight. Larry's sarcasm is a bit much for me to take some nights. Pernell Whitaker has the ability to be an amazing trainer. I hope his life is together enough to offer the expertise he has to this generation of fighters.
Both fighters are in amazing shape, but Judah is cut up like a bag of dope tonight. If he cannot win tonight, in the shape he's in, it is a bad sign for his career.
The 4 to 1 odds seem a bit long for odds, but we will see.
As the fight approaches, now in less than an hour, celebs or near celebs at least are weighing in with opinions. When the casual fans are a buzz that usually speaks to a decent amount of hype.
Stacey King, former Chicago Bull and current Bulls announcer says:
"Fight night peeps! Who u got Judah or Khan tonight! Hit me with who u got in the fight! I got Judah!!! Calling it now KO in 7 #bookitDanno"
"I think Zab Super Judah with the ugly bald head is gonna win the fight tonight. Lol jk"
"Zab Judah is gonna lace this cat up tnite!!! Who you got? #Brooklyn *B Brooklyn always."
He said that in between vaseline sandwiches.
Twitter seems pro Zab, but I'm sticking with my original prediction. Zab's younger brother Josiah won his fight on the undercard. He is now 10-1-1, the Judah contingent will be hoping for the daily double tonight.
It certainly seems like it'll be a pro-Judah crowd, he'll need it, but hey I've already been wrong once today in boxing predictions.
Dereck Chisora lost to Tyson Fury by decision. I was worried when he showed up for weigh-in looking like Chubb Rock.
Boxing experts are split on the outcome of the Judah-Khan bout, but all seem to believe it'll be a good fight. Many people are calling Khan one of the fastest boxers in the sport, and I do acknowledge his speed, but Judah though 33 years old is still quick as well.
If this were a different guy, with a different mental makeup, I'd choose Judah in a heartbeat as my favorite to win this bout, but because of his history, I'm going the other way.
If Amir brawls with Judah that could allow Zab a chance. Khan has the size and skills to make this a boring fight, that will undoubtedly frustrate Judah. In these similar situations, Judah hasn't shown the best judgement.
His behavior when facing Floyd Mayweather, Jr is one specific instance. He made a good account of himself and many would say he was winning the first four rounds before Floyd made an adjustment that rattled Judah and he began to foul and took the fight in a bad direction.
Beyond speed, the greatest quality any fighter can have in the ring is the ability to adjust mid fight. Most times, fighters have been training and game-planning for what they anticipate to occur in the ring. When the in-ring action dictates a different reality, the truly great fighters can keep their composure and make the proper adjustments, if they are physically capable.
Judah definitely has the ability, but has never shown the composure. I think this fight may come down to similar factors. Judah will have a chance for a stoppage as Khan does have some defensive lapses and Judah can punch. Right now, I'd say eight rounds to four in favor of Khan if he fights the smart technical fight. If he brawls he may get stopped or win a closer decision in a spectacular fight, likely to lead to a rematch.
