Testosterone and tempers were running high today in Dublin as the Cage Contender X public weigh ins took place in the Square, Tallaght.

For the main event, however, a lot of respect was present when the Featherweight Champion, Owen Roddy, and his opponent, Ben Davis faced off.

The two exciting martial artists will meet tomorrow in what many expect to be the fight of the year. With both men boasting excellent striking skills, spectators are advised not to blink during this title fight.

The much publicised rivalry between Cage Contender Middleweight Champion, Chris Fields, and the No. 1 contender John Redmond spiralled out of control. The two stood face to face for their first public meeting since Redmond released a video smashing a t-shirt with Fields’ SBGi team logo over a heavy bag.

Fields walked out and went into the classic Karate Kid “crane” stance. Redmond, not finding the gesture amusing, walked straight into the face of Fields before a scuffle ensued, leading to the two middleweights being separated.

Coaches Paul Cowzer (Rush Fight Academy/ Redmond) and John Kavanagh (SBGi/Fields) have also engaged in a war of words of sorts in the lead up to the fight, but Kavanagh was not present today to meet with his rival. Rumour has it the jiu jitsu master was still too aggravated and didn’t want to boil over at the public weigh in.

The undercard also gave way for some mean stare downs. Lucan brawler, Blaine O’Driscoll and his opponent, Joe Roache of Spirit MMA snarled at each other before going their separate ways in what promises to be an all out war.

Some tickets will be available tomorrow at the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght where the action will commence at 7pm.
